Be cunning, play cunning, and learn how to play craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s knights wagered on Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when banished by the English, the French headed down south and located refuge in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and across the country. A good many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn built the modern craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players could bet on the dice to not win. Later, he established the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
