Be brilliant, play clever, and pickup craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French relocated down south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and throughout the nation. A great many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
